Red Dress Day
National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S)
May 5 is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S) in Canada; otherwise known as Red Dress Day.
Red Dress day was inspired by the RedDress project by Jamie Black, a Metis artist. Jamie used empty red dresses to symbolize the lost lives at the hands of violence as a way to publically raise awareness. Today we remember these lost lives and the impact on their communities.
